Selim Birsel gazes at the Backyard
Since 1990, Selim Birsel works in diver’s areas on his art. In 1999, he started to work at Sabancż University as an academic member. Meanwhile, he collaborates for the exhibitions in Kasa Gallery.
Birsel tells about his exhibition “Backyard” in Gallery Apel:
Backyard” exhibition is somehow a section of my last year’s researches. It starts with the idea and the fact of ‘Cabinet’ and develops with the state of gazing through a window from inside to outside. The world that we’re living, or house, has two doors which one opens to the front and the other one opens to the backyard.
What’s there in our backyards, what’s happening there, where are we wondering? In this exhibition, I try to focus on those questions by presenting tree main works combined to each others named “Tank Flowers”, “Testis-Tank-Ear-Field, Vienna”, and a re-interpretation of “Table of Collected Memories” that I produced in Lebanon.
With the “Backyard” exhibition Selim Birsel presents a catalog includes his works’ documentations and writings between the years of 2002-2008.
Selim Birsel' book "Backyard" is available from Gallery Apel.
